Version history
Docly can keep earlier versions of your documents. You can see what was changed, who changed it and when, and bring back an earlier version.
Updated: 17.10.2026 16:02 Check that your subscription includes version history
Version history is included in the Business, Advanced and Enterprise subscriptions. It is not included in Start. See the plans at https://docly.no/priser.
Know which documents get history
History is kept for documents that use a schema with versioning. That covers most schemas, including code files such as .css and .js that are uploaded or edited in Docly.
A schema can be set up without versioning. Documents that use such a schema get no history.
Open the document and click "History"
Open the document and click "History". The list shows every saved version with the time it was saved and who saved it.
The top of the dialog also shows when the document was created and last modified, and by whom.
Bring back an earlier version
Click "Open version" on the version you want, check the content, and click "Save". The content replaces the current one, and the save itself becomes a new version in the history, so nothing is lost.
You can give a version a label, for example "Approved", so it is easy to find again. See also the guide "How to rollback version on a document".
How long versions are kept
All versions from the last three days are kept. When history is cleaned up, older versions are thinned out so that the last version each person saved on each day is kept. Versions with a label are always kept.
When version history is turned off
If version history is not included in your subscription, saving a document does not store a new version. The "History" dialog shows a message about this.
Versions that already exist are kept and can still be opened.
If you open an earlier version and save it, the current content is replaced without being kept as a version. Make sure you no longer need the current content before you do this.
To get version history, you can change to a subscription that includes it. Contact us.
